Larval feeding type: Bark borer
Larval substrate: Viburnum dentatum (Smooth Arrowwood), Viburnum lantana (Wayfaring Tree)
Phenology: Adult: 7/05 to 7/14 (2 records)
Comment: Can easily be mistaken for S. pictipes, especially as the male can be attracted to S. pictipes pheromone. A specific lure for this species is also connercially available. Most easily distinguished by the lack of a distinct white patch in front of the eye and a more obvious anal tuft (similar to S. exitiosa, but S. viburni is generally much smaller); thorax black, with yellow scales on the front half, occipital fringe yellow dorsally, not black as in S. pictipes.
