Larval feeding type: Forms a tentiform leaf-mine on the underside, then feeds in a leaf edge folded downwards; pupates in a silken cocoon away from the feeding area
Larval substrate: Aronia* (Chokeberry), Amelanchier* (Serviceberry), Malus pumila* (Apple), Malus sieboldii* (Toringo Crab Apple), Sorbus americana* (American Mountain Ash)
Comment: The only species in Massachusetts known to feed on more than one hostplant. Dietz (1907) states that the third joint of the palpi is conspicuously banded with fuscous. However, this is a very variable character and the palpi can be completely white or completely black.
