Larval feeding type: Bark borer, in branches and trunks, often where there is a previous injury or fungal infection
Larval substrate: Fruit bearing trees, incl. Prunus spp. (Cherry, Plum, Peach)
Phenology: Adult: 6/01 to 9/24 (38 records)
Comment: Can easily be mistaken for S. viburni, especially as the male of that species can be attracted to S. pictipes pheromone. Most easily distinguished by the presence of a distinct white patch in front of the eye and the lack of an obvious anal tuft (if present, very small); thorax black, with no yellow scales on the front half, occipital fringe black dorsally, not yellow as in S. viburni.
