Larval feeding type: leaf-miner; larva green, although may appear whitish in the mine; the mine seems to be indistinguishable from S. corylifoliella.
Larval substrate: Morella caroliniensis* (Small Bayberry)

Comment: S. corylifoliella also commonly occurs on bayberry and vacated mines cannot be distinguished. The larva of myricafoliella is green, whereas that of corylifoliella is pale yellow, however the color can be difficult to assess while in the mine.
