Larval substrate: Salix spp.* (Willow), Salix purpurea* (Basket Willow), Salix sericea* (Silky Willow)
Comment: P. salicivorella (Braun, 1908) thought to be a synonym of P. scudderella; the most common Phyllonorycter species feeding on Salix in Massachusetts and probably much more widespread than the current records suggest
