Larval feeding type: Leaf tier
Larval substrate: Corylus (Hazelnut), Tilia (Linden), Aralia nudicaulis* (Sarsaparilla), Celastrus (Bittersweet); on MV reported on Ilex verticillata* (Winterberry); Prunus virginiana* (Choke Cherry)
Phenology: Adult: 5/27 to 9/15 (71 records)

Comment: H. abdominalis is now a synonym of H. thestealis; all individuals previously identified as H. abdominalis need to be re-identified, but most are likely to be the recently described H. aquilonalis. For help with identification see: Handfield & Handfield (2021)
