Comment: This species and E. swettii are the two common species with elongated wings flying early in the year (mainly April, early May). E. matheri has slightly more pronounced elongated wings than E. swettii and the PM line generally curves round the discal spot and thence straight to the costa, whereas in E. swettii there is generally a kink in this line just before the costa, which it hits at a more acute angle, pointing towards the apex. E. matheri is generally less well marked than E. swettii.
