Larval substrate: Grasses
Phenology: Adult: 7/17 to 10/15 (72 records)
Comment: Has a single generation, flying from August onwards. Kimball reports a first generation in June on Nantucket, but this needs confirmation. It is not always easy to distinguish from C. praefectellus and is often misidentified. The white stripe on leachellus is wider in the middle of the wing and towards the base is distinctly wider than the brown along the costa. The black subterminal spots are on a silver background, whereas in praefectellus they tend to be on white. The black apical dash is usually darker than the ground color, whereas in praefectellus it is usually the same color. In praefectellus the full length of the fringe is whitish at the base, whereas in leachellus it is restricted to the apical part.
