Larval substrate: Symphyotrichum novae-angliae (New England American-aster)
Phenology: Adult: 5/27 to 8/31 (40 records)

Comment: Sometimes confused with Rolandylis maiana (#3837), but that species is (even) smaller (about 8 mm WS, compared to about 10 mm for hoffmanana) and has a more distinct wing pattern, with a more uniform and extensive pale ground color and no gray markings at the base.
