Larval feeding type: Root and lower stem borer
Larval substrate: Doellingeria umbellatus (Tall White Aster)
Phenology: Adult: 5/30 to 8/04 (7 records)
Comment: Can probably be attracted to the general Clearwing Borer Lure (Great Lakes IPM) or S. scitula lure. Type locality is Purgatory Swamp [North Andover], MA. Can be mistaken for Synanthedon acerrubri, but it is generally more yellowish. The body has scattered yellowish scales, with no rings, likewise on the forewings, especially on the veins just beyond the discal spot. The paler areas on the legs are likewise distinctly yellowish rather than whitish. The discal spot is larger and rectangular. The abdomen tip is all yellow in the female, but just medially yellow in the male. Synanthedon acerni can also be similar, but has no white on the antennae.
