Larval feeding type: Catkin feeder
Larval substrate: Pinus spp. (Pine)
Phenology: Adult: 7/05 to 7/21 (8 records)
Comment: Can easily be confused with Calosima argyrosplendella, which is smaller (9-12mm, compared to 11-14mm for C. dianella) and more yellowish-white (see there) and Holcocera immaculella/concolor, which is larger (14-18mm) and is generally darker ochreous-brown rather than ochreous-yellow. Male Calosima dianella and C. argyrosplendella are easily distinguished from Holcocera immaculella as the first flagellomere in male Holcocera species is notched. Dietz had just one specimen when he described C. dianella. Adamski & Hodges 1996 synonymized C. lepidophaga (Clarke, 1960) with dianella (paratypes from MA), but left C. argyrosplendella as a separate species.
