Acalyptris n.sp.

Sort #: 53 | MPG #: 116.1
| BOLD Link

Larval feeding type: leaf-miner; larva constructs a pale brown cocoon in a leaf axil near the top of the plant
Larval substrate: Dulichium arundinaceum* (Three-way Sedge)

Comment: The larva feeds in the Fall and overwinters as a larva or pupa (?) in the cocoon. The plant invariably grows in water, so the cocoon has to be constructed high enough to survive winter water levels; cocoons found in the spring under water (having been marked) did not produce moths (but one parasite did emerge). The species appears to be quite heavily parasitized.
