Larval feeding type: Leaf-miner; larva green, forms a linear mine with a broad frass line, mostling filling the width, with "discernible zigzagging arcs for much of the mine’s length, these narrowing toward the end" (Eiseman, 2021); cocoon v. pale brown
Larval substrate: Quercus alba (White Oak), Quercus velutina* (Black Oak), Quercus macrocarpa (Burr Oak), Quercus palustris (Pin Oak), Quercus coccinea, ?Castanea
Phenology: Adult: 5/29 to 8/01 (4 records)

Comment: S. macrocarpae and S. nigriverticella can be very difficult to distinguish, although the males of nigriverticella have androconial scales on the hindwings. S. macrocarpae apparently tends to have a broader fascia than S. nigriverticella
