Scrobipalpula sacculicola

(Braun, 1925)

Sort #: 1198 | P #: 591296 | MPG #: 2022
View on BugGuide | View on iNaturalist | BOLD Link

Larval feeding type: leaf-miner
Larval substrate: Solidago juncea* (Early Goldenrod), Solidago speciosa (Showy Goldenrod)
Phenology: Adult: 8/22 (1 record)

Comment: DNA does not seem to be able to distinguish Scrobipalpula species well and many species are currently lumped under a single DNA barcode (BOLD:AAF1106). However, a manual analysis of material reared from Erigeron, Solidago and Artemisia shows clear differences between all three, suggesting that they are indeed separate species.

MA Endangered Species Act status: None
